Ep #54 Minisode (spoiler free): Barry “Chapter One: Make Your Mark” with Reporter Sebastian

Barry “Chapter One: Make Your Mark

Welcome to the Pilots and Petards Podcast! This is the podcast with nothing much ado about aircrafts, and potentially everything ado with first episodes of a filmic series. Join Jimbo and Drew with special guest Dallas news reporter Sebastian Robertson as they cast judgement and determine if the dark dark assassination comedy “Barry” will be hoisted, or not hoisted: that is the question!

Cheat Sheet:

  • Petard = bomb
  • Hoist a pilot = bad episode
  • Not hoist a pilot = good episode

  1. This show is super interesting. I’m curious about Barry’s fascination with acting (especially considering he’s so bad at it) and want to see how the future episodes develop that. As far as the pilot, the thing that hooked me was seeing someone so devoid of standard behavioral competencies immerse himself into an improv acting culture. Bill Hader is my vote for MVP in this pilot and let’s be real, the Crab X award has to go to Barry’s target, Ryan.

  2. Is it possible that they unintentionally wrote Barry to be autistic?

I’m looking into this. So far… probably not. I’m going to look closer at some of the signs on my rewatch. But I think Barry might have more than just stunted emotional and social development from the Afgan War.

My first impression was that I didn’t believe his character was a real person, as in there are too many mixed characters within Barry. Is he autistic? a psychopath? depressed with anxiety disorder?
